Opportunities for Canadian startups to leverage IP-focused government funding programs have grown significantly over the past five years. While designed to tackle the same broad challenge—Canada’s underwhelming promotion of IP ownership and commercialization—the programs differ in their approaches, offerings, and requirements. More importantly they continue to evolve, in response to the ever-changing political landscape and the needs of innovators.
Join Prerana Gaur and Michael Huynh from Intellectual Property Ontario (IPON) to learn about how IPON supports Ontario-based innovators, how it’s different from other funding initiatives, and how it has itself scaled from a $5M to a $25M IP-funding agency in three short years.
They will then facilitate an interactive discussion on best practices in working with IPON’s startup clients, and the role that IP practitioners and agencies like IPON can play in strengthening the Ontarian and Canadian economy.
Speakers:
Prerana Gaur is Manager, IP Funding at IPON, managing end-to-end funding process, including SOW approvals and supporting efficient funding distribution. She provides guidance on funding criteria and procedures and tracking of key metrics.
Michael Huynh is General Counsel at IPON, overseeing its legal services, regulatory compliance issues, and corporate governance. He advises on the agency’s delivery of IP funding, supports, and education.
The presentation is eligible for up to one hour of substantive CPD.
Please join us at 6PM for a cocktail reception followed by dinner and the presentation by Prerana and Michael.
Kindly note that registration will close at 5PM on Monday, April 7. To guarantee your spot, we encourage you to register now and avoid missing this opportunity!
