In-person Dinner

GEORGE Restaurant (111C Queen St. E)

Tuesday, June 13, 2023 at 6:00pm

Join us for dinner to discuss trademark squatters, takedown notices, and evolving forms of unfair competition. The discussion will explore some of the tools available under the Trademarks Act and Competition Act for dealing with entities that attempt to usurp, profit from, or damage goodwill earned for both registered and unregistered trademarks. We will explore evolving case law about bad faith applications, registrations, and use of trademarks under sections 18(e), 38(2)(a.1) and 7(b) of the Trademarks Act and the provisions relating to false and misleading statements and passing off under sections 7(a), (c) and (d) of the Trademarks Act and section 52(1) of the Competition Act.

Tamara Ramsey is a partner in the Advocacy & Dispute Resolution and Intellectual Property groups at Dale & Lessmann LLP. Tamara has a broad litigation practice that includes commercial and trademark matters. Tamara is an active member in the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada and has served on the 10+ (now Mid-Career) Advocates Standing Committee of The Advocates Society and as editor of Advocacy Matters.

The presentation is eligible for up to one hour of substantive CPD.

Please join us at 6PM for a cocktail reception followed by dinner and the presentation.
