Working With In-House Counsel

  • 11 Nov 2015

The TIPG is pleased to host a discussion of what works – and what doesn’t – when dealing with in-house counsel. Naim Kahn (IGT) and Megan Langley Grainger (Coca-Cola) will discuss their experience managing outside counsel and provide tips for your practice.

Naim Khan is Director, Intellectual Property at IGT, a global integrated gaming company. He is a Patent Portfolio architect based in Moncton, NB.  For more than a decade he has developed and managed various patent portfolios and has worked for small startups and large organizations in Canada. His methodology is to be hands on with the law firms, and he has experience with handling multiple law firms for a portfolio. He also has an intense focus on developing the invention and the inventor.

Megan Langley Grainger is Legal Counsel of Coca-Cola Ltd., providing advice and input regarding marketing and brand growth activities such as advertising, sponsorship and talent agreements, sweepstakes and contests and other promotions.  Megan’s practice also involves the negotiation of commercial contracts, management of external counsel, and protection of Coca-Cola’s trademarks and other intellectual property in Canada. Prior to attending law school, Megan spent several years in the field of consumer packaged goods marketing managing national brands.  Megan started her legal career with Bereskin & Parr LLP in the trademarks group, with a practice focusing on trademarks, related litigation, licensing and marketing and advertising law.  In 2014 Megan joined Coca-Cola Ltd. as Legal Counsel. Megan is a graduate of the University of Toronto, Joseph L. Rotman School of Management (MBA) and Faculty of Law (JD), and is a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada and a registered Canadian trademark agent.
